Timothy Parish is a writer, director and independent producer who works across documentary, narrative flmmaking and theatre. Parish began his studies in Fine Arts at Charles Darwin University before completing a Bachelor of Media Arts from RMIT University in 2005. Parish’s flms have been featured in numerous flm and media art festivals around the world including Transmediale (Germany), Zemos (Italy), Docomania (NZ), Wild Spaces (Aus), Electrofringe (Aus), OK Video Jakarta (Indonesia) and Fist Full of Films in the Northern Territory.

In 2006, Parish founded Verb Studios (, an independent production company through which he has created long and short form documentaries, music videos, live audiovisual performances and short flms. His clients include Darwin Festival, Northern Land Council and NT Dept. of Education, Environment Centre NT, Charles Darwin University, Corrugated Iron Youth Arts. Parish is also co-founder and Artistic Director at Undergrowth Inc, a multi-arts organisation which has published numerous anthologies, held group art exhibitions and organised the Transitions Film Festival, Australia’s largest environmental flm festival which he is the National Director of since 2012.

Key projects in recent years have included The Planets (2011), an hour long video production in collaboration with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra based on the work of Gustav Holst, and E2NT (2012) a multi-platform web documentary series about sustainability technology projects in the Northern Territory.

In 2013, Parish produced and directed the feature documentary AYA AWAKENINGS ( based on the book by Rak Razam exploring contemporary indigenous shamanism in Peru which is distributed in the US by Devolver Films. In 2014, Parish wrote, directed and was creative producer on the stage play The Book of Shadows, an international collaboration mixing live theatre, shadow puppetry and video art and animation bringing together Australian and Indonesian artists.

In 2015 he completed a short documentary GHOST STORY as part of the ART X NORTH project which will be broadcast on ABC iView and has been selected as one of the Screen Producers Australia’s ONES TO WATCH programme for 2015.

Current projects in development include writing the screenplay for The Free World about the true story of escaped refugees from the Woomera Detention Centre with support from Screen Territory, Another World Is Happening – a documentary project about visionary renewable energy projects around the world and SLAM TV a trans-media series about the art of slam poetry which merges documentary, video poetry and animations current in development with ABC ARTS ONLINE and ABC2
